What Does Unpairing Do to Your Apple Watch?

Your Apple Watch needs to be paired with an iPhone to work effectively. You can download apps, watch faces, stream music, and take advantage of other great features on your Apple Watch.

However, when the watch is unpaired with the iPhone, all the data is erased from the Apple Watch, and it goes back to the factory reset. Also, note that all your data is erased from the smartwatch but not from the iPhone.

If you are unpairing your Apple Watch using the paired iPhone, all the data will be automatically backed up by the iPhone. However, to let your smartphone back all the latest data successfully, you need to keep your iPhone in range with the Apple Watch.

Once you unpair your smartwatch, you can restore it through the backed-up data on your iPhone if you want to repair your Apple Watch or configure a new one.

In case you are wondering whether or not your Apple Watch data is safe on your iPhone, you can back up your iPhone to your iCloud account. Doing so will also automatically back up your Apple Watch data along with the iPhone and will remain safe in iCloud.
